Gentle Tonifying Soup with Astragalus, Longan & Rehmannia Root
Gentle Shen-Tonifying Soup with Astragalus, Longan & Rehmannia Root (3–4 servings)
Ingredients
- ½ pig’s heart
- 10 g Astragalus membranaceus root
- 20 g Platycladus orientalis seed
- 18 g Codonopsis pilosula root
- 10 g Ziziphus jujuba seed
- 10 g Polygala tenuifolia root
- 10 g Poria cocos pararadicis
- 10 g Rehmannia glutinosa root
- 8 g dried longan fruit
- 5 g Schisandra chinensis fruit
- 6 g goji berries
- 3–4 slices fresh ginger
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the herbs
Lightly rinse all dried herbs under cool water to remove any residue. Set aside to drain. - Clean the pork heart
Trim off any excess fat or connective tissue, then cut into bite-sized chunks. - Blanch the meat
Bring a small pot of water to a boil. Add ginger slices and cooking wine, then place the pork heart pieces into the pot. Simmer for about 4–5 minutes to remove impurities. Drain and rinse well. - Start the soup
Transfer the blanched pork heart into a soup pot. Add all the prepared herbs except the goji berries. Pour in enough water to fully cover the ingredients (about 2–2.5 liters). - Simmer
Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let simmer for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, allowing the flavors to develop. - Add final ingredient
About 10 minutes before finishing, stir in the goji berries. - Season and serve
Add salt to taste. Serve warm.
